In the need of enlightenment

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!

Sorry, an ultra-procrastinated post this time hehe.. :D Blogging started to be boring cos I figured out I'd better work several things out rather than staying in front of my lappie till late.. Besides, I have no interesting story (like I ever had one? haha..) and my daily life was dull and boring.

Everything is very confusing to me right now.

As much as I can’t stand staying here any longer, in fact, I have to bear with it at least for another two years. Every graduate school I’m interested in requires minimum 2 years full time working experience.

Well.. I was planning for an MDS class in Hong Kong University, but their tuition fee excluding living cost is MAD expensive. Well.. perhaps it’s not that expensive for a world class university, but for a mid-class-society-student-yet-is-still-jobless coming from a third world country like me, it IS expensive. USD 24K per annum man.. Who’s gonna sponsor me?? I’ve done some calculations and I figured out that even with the-best-but-logical-condition-here, I need TEN YEARS by myself to collect the money needed to sponsor my study and living expenses there for three years. I wonder why dentists are paid very low here.. I’ve ever asked a M’sian friend and he told me M’sian fresh graduate dentists are paid approximately USD1000 per month… In here, usually a fresh graduate dentist doesn’t earn more than USD 300 per month, except that he/she’s working in MFC (My Family Clinic, yeah..) So I thought, if I couldn’t collect the money here, I would collect it overseas hehe.. (how simple-minded I am..) Because dentist’s monthly salary in Hong Kong are much higher, I thought if I worked there I could save bigger amount of money as well. My initial plan was to sit for licensing examination conducted by Hong Kong Dental Council in mid October next year. However, the biggest question is, even if I’m able to pass the three-parts examination, WHO’S GONNA EMPLOY ME THEN? The only fluent language I speak is English. My Putonghua is still in intermediate level, which I think isn’t sufficient for practicing in medical field. Plus, I can’t speak Cantonese yet, it’s still a fetus. It’s not as simple as switching to different pronounciation as their SIX (instead of four) tones is reaaaaallly frustrating. I’ve been searching possibilities and some dentist vacancies over there and they all require fluency in Cantonese… sigh.. =.=

I wonder why Hong Kong isn't as foreign-student friendly as Singapore. Singapore offers international students plenty of choices. They offer student loans, scholarships, and even permit them to do part-time job. I read somewhere that student visa in Hong Kong doesn't allow them to work outside the training programme. I might want to consider Singapore now, for it looks more reachable, more reasonable tuition fee, and better financial aids offered.

You wanna ask why I push so hard to study overseas? Why don't I just apply to local universities and save a lot of time?? Do I think that local universities aren't qualified??

No. I don't think they're bad nor not qualified, exception for ****** perhaps hahahha... Oh I can blabber for few pages long about it but I won't do that. I don't want to get sued and have my certificate not issued y'noe..

I just think.....

I need englightenment.
I need new situation.
I need to get out of my comfort zone.
I need to know how it's like to study in an international reputable university.
I need to know how it's like to learn from the bests.

MOST IMPORTANTLY....

I need to know whether my current perceptions about this place I'm currently residing is TRUE or NOT!!!

Simple examples for that are:

  1. my university always claims that they're the best. And I always complain that, are they fuckin joking?? Hahah..
  2. the elderly always say that living in Indonesia is so far the best for them, making money is easy as well if compared to developed countries like SG or HK etc. But I always complain that, I can't stand living here, where laws are ridiculous and people are dumb; money is easy to make, as long as you want to earn it and sweat for it.

Am I looking overly to overseas living? Am I too underestimating my home country?

I need to go out and see it by myself. I don't want to be like some of those who said that they're the best but couldn't provide their students a decent toilet. Ohhh seriously, stop your self-praising statements and get lost!

You can not compare if you only see one thing. Thus, you can not say that you're superlative if you never look at the other. People are always self praising without realising that their glory had passed years and years ago. They don't want to catch up with today and try to self-pleasing theirselves with old times stories. Please wake up la....

recently...

Yes yes yes... I'm forever Mrs. Wang Lee Hom~ ♥

Lovely pictures taken by Harry with his D5000, I tweak the color a bit and crop some parts hehe.. :D It was taken in Nusa Dua Beach, Bali. I went there with some friends attending a dentistry seminar for 4 days. People thought that I went for holiday and the seminar was only an excuse. WRONG! Trust me, my only point coming to Bali was that seminar. My last visit to Bali was February this year, besides, I had already had my own holiday a week before. But everyone else wanted a holiday, so yeah.. eventually I did have some leisure there haha..

Besides everyday's routines, I'm trying to learn Cantonese right now hehe.. I know my Chinese language is still so-so, and I can get confused with Cantonese pronounciation as they sound similar to Putonghua, but I love lingo, baby.. hahaha... Cantonese is the most-widely spoken dialect after Putonghua and I think it'll be very very useful if eventually I move to HK. Yeah.. I'm making my way there, and I know I can't just survive with English. As the wise said, when in Rome, speak like the Romans! Besides, if a non-Chinese domestic worker can speak it fluently, why can't I, a Chinese??

I've downloaded some podcasts, but if you happen to know Cantonese learning sources, please do let me know! :)
